How it works:

A TV shows the game board, wirelessly connected to the players' phones

No Thanks! (also known as Não Obrigado!) is a card game that's easy to learn but full of tough calls: on your turn, you decide whether to pay to pass the current card along, or take it — along with every chip that's piled up on it. The TV (or computer) shows the shared board, wirelessly connected to every phone — everyone just needs to be online, no cables or pairing required.

What you need

Setup

The deck has 33 cards, numbered 3 through 35. At the start of the game, 8 cards are set aside unseen, leaving 25 cards in play. Each player starts with 11 chips.

How to play — your turn

There's always one card face up on the table. On your turn, you have two options:

  1. Pay a chip — it goes on top of the card (joining any chips already there from earlier turns), and play passes to the next player.
  2. Take the card — you keep it, along with every chip piled on it. You keep playing: a new card flips face up, and the decision is yours again.

If you run out of chips, you're forced to take the card — paying to pass is no longer an option.

The game ends once all 25 cards in play have been taken.

Scoring

At the end, each player adds up their cards — with one key rule: a run of consecutive cards only counts as its lowest card. For example, if you're holding 5 6 7, that's just 5 points, not 18 — so it's often worth completing a run even with cards you didn't want.

Then subtract any chips you have left. Whoever has the lowest total score wins.
